Welcome to the Sound and Abstract Painting workshop! In this workshop, we focus on how sound-based art and abstract painting/mark-making can come together. 

​Through this workshop, we aim to show you an example of the wide-ranging possibilities in interdisciplinary art. We hope you enjoy experimenting with and expanding your art-making and creativity skills.

step 1: sound collecting

In this step, we show you how to collect sounds on your phones and put them all together to make a soundscape. It's not as hard as it seems - we can do everything on our phones!

Follow along with our recorded tutorial to find, make and collect some very interesting sounds.

step 2: Mark making

In this step, we focus on how you can express yourself through mark-making on paper. We encourage you to represent abstract concepts like sounds, emotions, etc through 2D media.

step 3: Soundscapes

​ and abstraction

In this step, we combine the concepts of sound collecting and mark-making and take them to the next level. We start to think about how collected sounds can come together to create entire soundscapes. And we use the soundscape as an inspiration and a guide for making abstract art.

While crafting this workshop, our classmates as well as other participants helped us collect many interesting sounds.

We compiled these sounds into something stimulating that we hope will inspire some very interesting abstract art pieces!
