WHAT IS ANIMATION?

Animation is the method in which drawings or still figures are repeated and manipulated in order to appear as moving images. A "GIF" is a short style of animation that has become increasingly popular with today's advanced technology.
GIF stands for Graphics Interchange Format.
HISTORY OF ANIMATION

1500 AD

Leonardo Da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man shows multiple stages of movement in one image.

Industrial Revolution brought equipment like the “Magic Lantern” which was used to illustrate lectures, concerts, pantomimes, and other forms of theater. 

1906

Humorous Phases of Funny Faces was the first animation using film- photography.

1919

Felix the Cat becomes the first animated celebrity!

1908

Fantasmagorie was considered the first animated cartoon.

1928

Steamboat Willie was the first cartoon with sound printed on the film. This was a big success for Disney.

1926

The Adventures of Prince Achmed was the oldest-surviving feature-length animated film using paper cut-out silhouette techniques. Created by German filmmaker Lotte Reiniger. 

1985

The beginning of Studio Ghibli, an animation studio which created some of the most inspired animated films of all time including Spirited Away, My Neighbour Totoro, Princess Mononoke and Howl's Moving Castle.

1930-1950

The golden age of American animation. Studios like MGM, Disney, Warner brothers start rapidly producing animated films.

1960

American Television takes off with animation, producing classics like The Flintstones and eventually The Simpsons.

1995

Toy Story is the first computer-animated feature film to be released.
